Handwork Club

Grades: 3-6

Hurray for Handwork! 

Together, we will work on projects, including knit gnomes or animals, 5th-grade socks, 3rd-grade crochet granny squares or flowers, and 4th-grade embroidery needle holders or cross-stitch pencil cases. We will also work on new projects using patterns and our imaginations!

Along with handwork, we will have time for outside play. There is an additional $10 fee for supplies.

Public Forum Debate Club 

Grades: 9-12

Students will learn the fundamentals and finer points of public forum debate from Stephen Rusgo, the founder of Go Debate Academy. Last season, his students won the ADL New York State Championship in the high school and lower school divisions. The club will compete in an American Debate League Public Forum competition in October in the Bronx ($50 entrance fee), and for those who enroll in a second session, the famous Harvard Debate in Massachusetts (separate fee/students must be accompanied by a parent and find their own accommodations). Free introductory session on Monday, September 14 (parents may Zoom in with questions)

Soccer Club 

Grades 5 and 6

Description: Soccer Club is co-ed and open to any 5th or 6th grader interested in learning the fundamentals of soccer, as well as those wishing to build upon the experience they may already have. No previous training or experience is required, just a positive attitude and plenty of energy! Student-athletes will be coached in the basic pillars of soccer: dribbling, passing, ball control, shooting, and teamwork. There are no games, just practices and scrimmages! This is an engaging and positive club that is sure to be enjoyed by everyone interested.

Meets: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:20 pm – 5:00 pm; 1st session on Tuesday, 9/15, 9/17, 9/22, 9/24, 9/29, 10/1, 10/6, 10/8, 10/13, 10/15

Creative Play Club

Grades: 2-6

Have fun with games! We will play our favorite games and get creative with new ones. These include outdoor games, ball games, hand games, jump rope, dances, and races—let your imagination run wild! On days with good weather, we will play outside. However, if it rains heavily, is too windy, or is too cold, we will explore indoor games such as cards, board games, drawing, and more.

Unity Cooking Club

Grades 4-6

Today, we need unity more than ever. This year, the Cooking Club aims to bring children together to share a meal in a family-style format, similar to what many people do around the world. Each week, we will highlight a new country, culture, or nationality, and prepare, cook, and share a meal together, filled with laughter, conversation, and togetherness. Our hope is that this hour and a half of joy will spread out into the world.

Chess Nuts Club

Grades 3-8

Long Island Chess Nuts is a non-profit organization that has introduced students to the art of chess for three decades. It employs top coaches to help students master the basic rules of chess before moving on to strategy and the finer points of the game. This year, Long Island Chess Nuts will offer weekly classes at Waldorf for 8 sessions. Come explore the exciting world of Chess!

Nature Time Play Club

Grades: 2-3

Join us for Nature Time Play Club—an unstructured, child-led outdoor play experience rooted in Waldorf values and inspired by the Let Grow Project. The Nature Time Play Club offers children a dedicated space to reconnect with their natural environment and each other—free from structured activities, screens, or adult-driven agendas. Each Friday after school, children in Grades 2 and 3 are invited to explore, build, and imagine in nature. They will not only deepen their relationship with the earth but also grow in resilience, confidence, empathy, and independence.

Nail Art Manicure Club

Grades 7-8

Learn how to do a basic natural manicure service on your own nails and practice with each other to ensure healthy and growing nails.  You will create Nail Art using nail art polishes, stickers, and various tools.  Create your own designs using Embellishments with Rhinestones.
