Middle School
Our Middle School curriculum in grades 6-8 is uniquely designed to inspire and support adolescents as they discover themselves in relationship to the wider world. Confidence and self-discovery are cultivated through public speaking opportunities, more advanced hands-on learning, and stimulating class discussions, sparking students’ intellect and giving them a deeper sense of belonging to the world. As a result, they are primed to enter the thought-provoking, seminar-style classes of our high school.

How is the Waldorf Middle School curriculum unique?
Courses of study in the Main Lessons reflect age-appropriate themes that engage and challenge students.
- Grade 6: Lawfulness and Individuality: Roman and Medieval History, Latin American Geography, Astronomy, Geology, Physics, Business Math, and Geometry
- Grade 7: Questing and Questioning: Renaissance, World Exploration, Creative Writing, Geography of Asia, Chemistry, Geometry, Physics, and Algebra
- Grade 8: Revolution and Idealism: Early American History, Human Rights, Geography of Africa, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physics, Platonic Solids, Algebra, and the 8th Grade Play
Yearlong Academic Classes and Specialty Subjects include Language Arts, Math, Spanish, German, Physical Education, Orchestra, Band, Horticulture, Chorus, Health and Wellness, Cyber Civics, Fine Art, Eurythmy, Woodworking, and Fiber Arts.
Special Projects and events engage Middle School students both in the broader world and their unique interests. Traditionally our sixth grade joins other schools to participate in the Medieval Games, a part of their history studies that also includes a service element. The Eighth Grade Projects align students with mentors for a months-long study in a field of their choice and culminates in presentation to the community. Recent events have brought authors of interest to speak to our students. These events help nurture self-discovery and the ability to engage in the world with meaning.
