Maryjean Williams

Maryjean Williams, mother of three children, brings a lifetime of leadership, service, and devotion to children and families with her work as a Parent and Child Teacher at the Waldorf School of Garden City. Also, as an accredited La Leche League leader, she facilitates gatherings at the WSGC, fostering healthy, deeply rooted connections within families and the broader school community. She earned a certificate  of completion in Leading With Wisdom and Heart, parent and child lead teacher training at WSGC. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Molloy College and has been a Registered Nurse in New York State since 1998. Her distinguished nursing career includes service as an Airborne Army Nurse Corps Officer at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where, as a Captain, she supervised multidisciplinary teams in Neurology, Traumatic Brain Injury, Orthopedics, Medical, and Pediatric ICU at one of the nation’s most complex military medical centers. A decorated veteran, Maryjean received the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal, and was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Her clinical background also includes Pediatric Critical Care at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Surgical and Coronary Critical Care, and Radiology nursing at NYU Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, reflecting decades of high-level medical expertise and compassionate care. 

Alongside her professional accomplishments, Maryjean has devoted more than twenty years to community leadership and family advocacy. She is the founder of Little Acorns of Long Island, a Waldorf-inspired parent and child cooperative since 2011, that has served dozens of families annually through outdoor education, cultural festivals, storytelling, and handwork. She has been a Leader with La Leche League International since 2013 and is the Suffolk County Attachment Parenting International Leader, guiding families through education, mentorship, and support programs across Suffolk County. In addition to her work in early childhood education, Maryjean currently serves as Ruling Elder of Christian Education at Community Presbyterian Church of Merrick, where she provides strategic leadership and curriculum development for youth and families. Her life’s work reflects a deep commitment to nurturing strong families, honoring childhood, and fostering communities rooted in connection, reverence, and service. Maryjean has three children, and Lily is currently enrolled in 11th grade.
