Afternoon Programs

The school’s Afternoon Program is available daily until 6:00 p.m. and provides families with a wholesome after-school childcare alternative. Students can be enrolled in the program on a regular schedule or an “as needed” basis. Each respective Program Director must receive a minimum of 24 hours notice for “drop ins” so that adequate supervision is in place for the number of children attending that day. Afternoon Program enrollments forms and hourly rate information is available in the Business Office. Invoices for Afternoon Program fees are sent monthly, separate from tuition payments.

The Afternoon Programs at the Waldorf School of Garden City are led by trained, experienced Waldorf teachers.

Please note that unsupervised students, remaining beyond the 3:10 p.m. dismissal time, automatically join the Afternoon Program until a parent or guardian arrives.  Click here to download the Afternoon Program brochure ( Adobe Acrobat Reader required). Click the following links to learn more about the Extended Day Program.

Afternoon Care - Nursery and Kindergarten  (12:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Our youngest students enjoy the afternoon in the nursery or one of the mixed-age kindergarten classrooms. A homemade soup accompanies lunch provided by the parents, and the daily rhythm includes a rest or nap time, followed by both indoor and outdoor free play. This program is led by experienced early childhood teachers.

$3,500 per week for the year
$700 per day for the year

For more information about Afternoon Care, please contact Mrs. Lucille Goldenberg (Kindergarten) or Mrs. Monica Gallardo (Nursery).

Friday “Lunch Bunch” - Grades 1–3 (12:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Parents are reminded that on Fridays school ends at 12 noon for students in Grades 1-3. Children attending this program eat lunch (brought from home) followed by an afternoon of indoor and outdoor playtime. Students staying after 3:10 pm join the Extended Day Program.

$24 afternoon or $8 per hour drop-in

Extended Day - Kindergarten–Grade 3  (3:10 pm - 6:00 pm)

After a long school day, our goal is to provide the youngest students with a nurturing and homelike atmosphere. Held in one of the kindergarten classrooms, this afternoon program includes both indoor and outdoor play, as weather permits. A healthy midafternoon snack is also provided.

$8 per hour, $4 for additional siblings

Homework Club - Grades 4–12  (3:10 pm - 6:00 pm)

After a nutritious snack, and maybe even a bit of physical activity, students in the Homework Club meet in the library to work quietly on their homework and other projects. Assistance is provided by teachers, along with selected college and high school students, as needed. Children without assignments, or who have completed their work, are supervised for indoor and outdoor play, which sometimes includes cheering on the Waldorf sports teams!

$10 per hour, $5 for additional siblings
Maximum fee: $25 per day or $100 per week

For more information about the Extended Day and Homework Club Programs, please contact Ms. Natasha Lish .

Tutoring Services - Grades 4–12  (3:10 pm - 6:00 pm)

Students in Grades 4-12 can receive tutoring services provided by Waldorf teachers and carefully selected college and high school students. Whether a student needs assistance organizing their main lesson book or requires support in calculus and physics, Mrs. Perla Yanovitch (Learning Consultant) arranges individual tutoring services and schedules designed to meet the educational requirements of each student.

Fees vary depending upon the number of students being tutored, as well as the level of skill offered by the tutor. To discuss tutoring arrangements, please contact Mrs. Perla Yanovitch at extension 156.

Fees determine hourly, based upon tutoring services provided

High School Student Supervision  (3:10 pm - 6:00 pm)

After the school day has ended, all students remaining on campus must be supervised. If a high school student is not participating in after school sports or another supervised activity, and needs to stay after school, appropriate supervision must be arranged by the student's parents.
